Charlie Gomez was born in Manila, Philippines and raised in New Jersey. He attended Baruch College in Manhattan where he earned his BA in Journalism in 1999. He spent over 10 years working in the financial services industry in New York before turning his lifelong hobby of photography into his profession in 2011.
From an early age, Charlie always had a camera in hand taking pictures of family and friends. His passion was fueled even more when his father gave him his first SLR, a Nikon F2, in high school. A course in black and white photography in college and his journalism background left an indelible impression on his style and technique. He tells a story with his photographs and is greatly influenced by the works of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Steve McCurry.
Now Charlie spends his time between the Philippines and the United States. He is currently documenting the burgeoning surf scene in the Philippines and is traveling across the country taking photos of the people, the culture and the landscape of the place he calls home. He is working closely with surf lifestyle brands Stokedinc. and Coast Thru Life to bring the story of Philippine surfing to the masses.
